Today is the day to clean out the frig and to get ready to Fast! It's too bad that most of us will give up things like food and not hatred. Of course we like our opinions and don't think much of others. It's hard for us to listen to others and take their advice on those things that really matter in life.
What I find most interesting about fasting is that in today's society..........we DON'T fast!!!!! I'm at the top of the list. I give up watermelon every year. A couple of years ago I found myself in Honduras at their Diocesan Convention which was during Lent and they had watermelon! I was true to my fast. I didn't eat any but I laughed and told someone that the Lord sure did have a sense of humor and that He got me good.
However, when we read about fasting in the Bible, the Lord is not so much concerned about what we eat and drink as He is on how we think and act. He wants us to be Holy as He is Holy. He wants us to be Righteous as He is Righteous. He wants us to take care of each other and not be so concerned about our own selves.
So, it seems to me as we enter into Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent, that we might want to consider having an attitude inventory. We need to ask ourselves why we do what we do? If it's not all about me, who is it about? How can I best serve the God who revealed Himself to me in His son, Jesus of Nazareth? What does it mean to be Faithful to Him? Can I trust Him? Can He trust me???? Will I allow Him to be Lord of my life? Will I allow Him to be Savior of my life? Am I just a convenient or token Christian? Do I really believe that He is who He says He is? Does it really matter?
If you say that you are a Christian, are you living for Him?
Have a Blessed Lent.................
